Sitting in my office at home, I am so grateful for the incredible view outside my window. While I’m inside most of the day working, the window to my world offers a constant parade of nature’s marvels, keeping me connected to the beauty of the outdoors – even if I’m not out there.
Two birdfeeders take center stage, attracting a delightful variety of birds. Cardinals, Carolina wrens, titmice, and Carolina chickadees are frequent visitors, each bringing their own unique charm and songs. It’s fascinating to watch their interactions and antics as they vie for a spot at the feeders.
My bird bath is another hub of activity. The catbirds, with their sleek grey feathers, particularly enjoy splashing around, while my resident squirrel occasionally stops by for a quick drink. It’s always a delight to see how these creatures use the resources I provide.
One of the highlights of my view is my blooming limelight hydrangea. After a couple of years of anticipation, it’s finally bursting with beautiful blooms. The greenish-white flowers add a unique splash of color to my garden and attract many pollinators.
Speaking of flowers, my wildflower garden is a haven for goldfinches, hummingbirds, hummingbird moths, butterflies of all kinds, and bees. The zinnias are in full bloom, creating a colorful tapestry that these creatures can’t resist.
I always keep my binoculars close at hand, ready to get a closer look at the visitors to my garden. Rabbits often hop through the background, sometimes chasing each other in play.
Occasionally, a deer or two pass through, adding a touch of grace to the scene. Robins search for worms in the grass while squirrels scurry about, adding to the lively atmosphere. Bluebirds have nested twice this year in the bluebird house at the foot of my driveway, their cheerful presence a constant joy.
Even though I spend most of my day indoors working, the view from outside my window allows me to experience the wonders of nature every day. It reminds me that beauty and tranquility are just outside. Whether it’s the flutter of a butterfly’s wings, the splash of a bird in the bath, or the sight of a deer walking by, each moment is a gift that enriches my day and keeps me connected to the natural world.
I encourage you to find your own window to the outside, whether it’s a potted plant on your balcony, a garden setting, or a local park. Bonding with nature is good for the body and soul.
Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience. –Ralph Waldo Emerson
